2010 FESTIVAL OF STARS!
| July 2, 2010 | to | July 3, 2010 |
The 2nd Annual Festival of Stars will be held from 10am-10pm on Saturday, July 3, 2010. Festivities will begin with a patriotic Star Spangled Parade at 10am. The parade path will begin at the Boozer complex, travel down Cross Street, take a right on Saluda Street and come through the Main Street of historic downtown Ninety Six! There will be no entry fee for those entering parade, but the deadline to sign up will be June 20th.
When you visit Ninety Six, you are sure to see stars!
Our heritage in Ninety Six is rich and colorful….from Cherokee Indians to British royalty and American heroes. Our roots run deep and our trees stand strong! You are all welcome and invited to visit us here in what some refer to as ‘small town Americana’.
Ninety Six is a small, cozy town in Greenwood County, South Carolina that played a big role in the American Revolution. Some of the very first blood was shed right here, less than two miles from our present-day town. This deems our part of the earth here: historical.
The stars, indeed, are always shining upon us. From the stars that dance with the wind on old glory on our town square to our eight-pointed fort in the old Cambridge Section…even the twinkling stars in the evening skies seem to smile and light the way for all who come and visit. Thus was born: THE FESTIVAL OF STARS! For detailed info, click on www.96chamberofcommerce.com
The FESTIVAL OF STARS was established in 2009 and will be held annually on the closest Saturday to The Fourth of July. Our town opens the door of Southern Hospitality to all who will enter in on this day of celebration.
We invite you to forget your troubles for a day and share with your children how it used to be in ‘the good ‘ol days’.
This event brings over 10,000 visitors to our small, humble-but proud, town.
During the day of the festival, the aroma of barbeque can be smelled from miles away! One can enjoy LIVE country, gospel, and beach music! There are games, sack races, parades, a hat-decorating contest, and much, much more! Anyone and everyone can participate!
The two biggest highlights of the festival are, of course, visiting our National Historic Site and the huge, magnificent fireworks celebration after dark! One may even spot antique cars, colonial re-enactors, or an Indian or two! Other events include art exhibits, craft vendors from all over the state, a photography contest, golf cart and bicycle decorating contests and a hot dog, watermelon, and apple pie eating contest! Whew! And still…there is more!
Visitors from 14 other states enjoyed the premier of the festival last year!
So go ahead….. mark your calendar for the 2010 FESTIVAL OF STARS on Saturday, July 3! The parade will begin at 10am and the festivities will end with a HUGE firework display over the skies of our town at 9:30pm.
Oh yeah, and don’t forget to show your patriotism by dressing in red, white, and blue! Bring your blanket, bring your family, and bring your smiles! If you don’t have any of those, we will share ours with you!
And we conclude with what any southerner would say: “Ya’ll come on over!”
You may come into Ninety Six as a stranger….but you will leave…. as a friend.
